Maple Bacon Spice Cake

  • The cake:Boxed moist spice cake
  • 1 lb. applewood smoked bacon
  • Frosting: 12 cup butter or margarine
  • 12 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 14 cup milk
  • 2 12 cups sifted powdered sugar


Step 1

Make the cake first according to the directions, let sit and cool. Cook bacon while cake is baking. You can either cut bacon before cooking or just crumble on top after it is cooked. DO NOT MAKE THE FROSTING until the cake has cooled and is ready to iced.

Melt butter in a sauce pan, than add brown sugar, boil over low heat for approx 2 min. stirring all the time. Add milk keep stirring until mixture boils. Add powdered sugar little by little, beating well after each addition, then it will start to thicken. Before it hardens spread frosting on cake. It hardens fairly quickly. After cake is frosted add crumbled bacon on top. You can also try to mix the bacon in the frosting if you prefer. Cut and enjoy with some vanilla bean ice cream
